1. Resolve Check Engine Light Issue

If your Check Engine Light is on, get your vehicle repaired as soon as possible before testing.

2. Complete at Least 5 Warmup Cycles

A minimum of 5 warm up cycles is required before conducting an OBD test.

A warm-up cycle occurs when the engine coolant heats up by at least 40°F after the engine is started and reaches 140°F for diesel engines.

3. Start OBD Testing Early

OBD tests can be completed by a CARB certified tester up to 90 days before the vehicle’s compliance deadline to allow time for repairs and to avoid fines and registration withholdings.
